In the latest in a series of concerning incidents, a collision occurred involving a school bus from Thika High School. Saturday morning saw traffic disruption along Thika Super Highway when a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) lost control and collided with the Thika High School bus near the Kuraiha/Mang’u High School footbridge.
Reports indicate minimal damage to the school bus’s rear, which was carrying students at the time of the incident. Although the PSV sustained significant dashboard damage, fortunately, no fatalities were reported, and the students aboard the bus were reportedly unharmed.
Local residents rushed to the scene to assist, mitigating what could have been a more severe outcome. The PSV was subsequently towed away, facilitating the resumption of traffic flow along the busy highway.
This event follows closely after a recent accident involving a Moi University bus along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway. While there were no casualties in the Moi University incident, the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof Isaac Koskei, announced the suspension of all academic trips until after the Easter Holidays as a precautionary measure.
Authorities are yet to determine the cause of the Thika accident, with investigations underway. This incident is part of a string of accidents involving university buses, with a recent tragedy at Maungu in Voi resulting in 11 fatalities and 26 injuries among Kenyatta University students on March 18. Injured students from that incident were transferred to hospitals in Nairobi for specialized care.
