The scene quickly descended into confusion as fans and delegates fled for safety, with police chasing after them in an attempt to restore order.

The elections were held following a January directive by the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT), which ordered the club to hold polls within 90 days. This came after Gor Mahia’s 2019 constitution set a four-year term limit for the current office holders.

The vote was conducted alongside the club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Veteran chairman Ambrose Rachier, who has led the club for 17 years, is seeking re-election in a bid to extend his leadership to 2029.

Also vying for various posts are outgoing treasurer Dolphina Onyango, former treasurer Sally Bolo, and Philip Nyakwaka.

The Electoral Board, chaired by Gichu Wahome, had released the official election roadmap and guidelines on Wednesday, April 2.
