The discovery was made on Saturday when area police commanders inspected the facility.

The news came as a surprise to senior officers, who demanded answers from local residents.

It remains unclear how long the suspect had been running the operation.

Authorities became aware of the unauthorized police post on March 8 at 11 a.m.

The suspect is from Asis village in Ndugulu Location, Kesses Sub County, Uasin Gishu County.

He took the initiative to establish a police patrol base at Cherus Centre, setting up in a building owned by a landlord and painting it in police colors, all without informing any senior officers. This prompted an investigation.

Police are now probing the situation to determine how long the man had been operating the post and whether any colleagues were aware of it.

Authorities plan to ask locals if they were arrested and taken to this makeshift facility.

Such police posts typically require a bureaucratic process for approval and operation, including necessary amenities like an armory, holding cells, offices, and functional toilets.
