Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has faulted Cabinet Secretaries for engaging in political rhetoric instead of focusing on their official duties.
In a statement, the Senator stressed that Cabinet members should stop politicking once they are sworn into office, arguing that their role is to drive policy and development, not politics.
Citing the United Arab Emirates as an example, Ledama contrasted Kenya’s persistent political debates with the Gulf nation’s focus on nation-building, warning that endless politicking hampers Kenya’s progress.
“Cabinet Secretaries, once you take office, politics must end. Look at the UAE: a desert turning into a thriving nation, while we politic 24/7. How will Kenyans survive the future? Stop it,” he said.
His remarks came shortly after Defence CS Aden Duale declared in Garissa that the new constitution and devolution had ended the era of one community feeling superior to others.
Former Presidential Economic Adviser Moses Kuria also echoed concerns, warning against generalisations that fuel ethnic divisions. He cautioned leaders against rhetoric that could destabilise the country, stressing that individuals should not be judged based on their community.
