Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s newly launched Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) has released a series of powerful campaign songs designed to rally public support in his rising political contest with President William Ruto.

The songs—delivered in both Kiswahili and English—highlight key messages of economic liberation, reclaiming dignity for workers, listening to ordinary citizens, and expanding democratic freedoms.

With the party’s motto Skiza Wakenya (Listen to Kenyans), DCP was officially unveiled on May 15, 2025, at its headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi, as part of Gachagua’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.

One of the Kiswahili songs urges unity against economic injustice and high-cost policies, chanting:

“Komboa payslip, Okoa Wakenya, Unganisha Kenya!”
“Skiza Wakenya! Waende kabisa! DCP ni mwamko mpya…”

Unlike the UDA’s 2021 launch—which leaned heavily on Christian hymns—DCP’s musical strategy includes both secular and gospel tones, tailored to highlight everyday struggles and rally people behind reform.

Another chant from supporters echoed:

“Uongozi wa kuaminika, tunaskiza Wakenya! DCP inaunganisha Wakenya wote…”

In a more poetic refrain, party enthusiasts sang:

“Maisha yangu ni wewe, hata kama sina pesa, maisha yangu ni wewe yawe!”

After resigning from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on May 12, 2025, Gachagua confirmed that the May 15 event marked the party’s unveiling, with a full national launch planned later.

He emphasized that DCP’s vision is rooted in the aspirations of the Mount Kenya people, vowing to lead a party that genuinely “listens to the ground.”

Speaking to Egesa FM earlier, Gachagua stressed that the party reflects national unity, not tribal interests:

“I have appointed leaders from outside Mt Kenya. Those calling me a tribalist will be shocked.”

DCP’s official colours are green, brown, and black, and its logo—a hand touching an ear—symbolizes attentiveness to the people’s voices. The party’s slogan is Kazi na Haki (Work and Justice).

Key members of the party’s governing council include Thomas Ratemo, Ado Yiembo, Mably Owino, Hussein Athman, Laura Njeri, Abdifatah Abdullahi, Joy Gatugi, Jeremiah Mong’eri, Joel Sang, John Maranga, Miriam Fredina Mariki, and Brenda Banjira Omusinda.
