Yusuf was reunited with his family in Eastleigh, Nairobi, after being brought there by unidentified individuals. News of his return quickly spread, drawing neighbors and friends to his home to celebrate. He was later taken to a hospital in Nairobi for medical checks, according to his family.

A large crowd gathered outside his home in Nairobi to rejoice in his safe return. The reasons behind his alleged abduction remain unclear, and investigations are ongoing.

Nairobi’s police chief, George Sedah, confirmed hearing about the MCA’s return and mentioned plans to speak with him soon.

Wajir County Governor Ahmed Abdullahi also acknowledged the news, expressing relief and joy over the safe return of the MCA. He said the people of Wajir had endured a difficult period of uncertainty and prayer, hoping for his safe return.

Abdullahi, who is also the Chairperson of the Council of Governors (CoG), expressed his gratitude: “Alhamdulillah! I am overjoyed to hear of Hon. Yussuf Hussein’s safe return and reunion with his family after months of uncertainty. The people of Wajir have experienced anxiety, prayers, and hope during his disappearance, and now the community is filled with immense relief and happiness.”

Wajir County Woman Representative Fatuma Abdi Jehow also reacted on social media, thanking God for the MCA’s safe return, saying, “No words but to say Alhamdulillah! Welcome home our MCA Hon. Yussuf Tolfiyow.”

Eldas Member of Parliament (MP) Adan Keynan, a relative of Yusuf, also confirmed the news, sharing his joy on social media, thanking God for his safe return. Keynan, seen addressing a crowd gathered at Yusuf’s home, shared his excitement in their native language.

Yusuf, who is also the Minority Leader of the Wajir County Assembly, disappeared on the night of September 13, 2024, while traveling from South C to his home in Pangani, Nairobi.

Activist Bob Njagi, one of three people abducted in Kitengela in August 2024, claimed on February 5, 2025, that he had been held in the same location as the MCA. Njagi, the leader of the Free Kenya Movement, described seeing Yusuf in a nearby room during his captivity.

Despite these claims, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja denied that the police had any involvement in the abduction, stating that investigations are ongoing, and they are still appealing to the public for any information.

Earlier in 2024, a body found in Wajir led to confusion, with some locals and relatives believing it was Yusuf’s. However, two DNA tests confirmed that the body found in Lake Yahud was not his.
