Speaking at the Christian Foundation Fellowship Church in Nairobi, Musyoka highlighted that betrayal was becoming more prevalent, ranging from personal relationships to national politics.
“There is betrayal everywhere, even between brothers. But the most concerning betrayal is that of politicians. Please pray for them, and I am one of them. I don’t like the term politician; I’d rather be called a leader. But this group in politics, I think we should all be gathered, taken to Uhuru Park, and repent together with the nation,” Kalonzo remarked.
He urged church leaders to pray for politicians, admitting that the political class was deeply entrenched in dishonesty.
His comments came shortly after Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) established a political cooperation agreement.
Musyoka criticized the partnership, accusing Raila of betraying Kenyans who lost their lives during the 2023 and 2024 protests against the rising cost of living, oppressive taxes, and poor governance.
“If there is no clear plan at KICC today to compensate the families of those who lost their lives due to police brutality, then the KICC talks will only lead to further betrayal of the Kenyan people,” he said.
Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa supported Kalonzo’s views and accused Odinga of abandoning his opposition role to align with the government. He warned that history would not look kindly on Odinga’s decision.
Both Musyoka and Wamalwa stressed that despite Raila’s support, Ruto would not secure victory in the 2027 elections.
The opposition leaders pledged to remain committed to the people’s concerns and vowed not to be swayed by offers of government positions.
“We have chosen to stand with Gen Z and the people of Kenya, and we, the opposition, want to make it clear that this is a deliberate and thoughtful stance from today onwards,” Wamalwa said.
President Ruto and Odinga formalized a Memorandum of Understanding on Friday, agreeing to work together and hold wide-ranging consultations on key national issues.
