A shocking video has surfaced online showing Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga allegedly celebrating the death of former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga — remarks that have sparked widespread outrage among Kenyans.
In the viral clip, Governor Kahiga, speaking in his native Kikuyu language during a public event in Kieni Constituency, Nyeri County, is heard describing Odinga’s death as “God’s plan to return development to the Mt. Kenya region.”
The governor further suggested that the passing of the opposition leader had “sent everyone, including President William Ruto, back to the drawing board.”
His comments have since ignited fierce backlash across social media platforms, with many citizens terming the statement as insensitive and disrespectful to the late statesman and his grieving family.
Leaders and members of the public from across the political divide have called on Kahiga to retract his remarks and issue an apology, describing his words as unbecoming of an elected leader.
Raila Odinga, who passed away recently, was laid to rest in his Bondo home, Siaya County, where national and international dignitaries paid glowing tributes to his decades of service to the country.
