Shabana FC has appointed Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo, a former Kenyan international and experienced coach, as their new head coach, replacing the dismissed Sammy Okoth. Oscar Kambona, the former Gor Mahia defender who served as Okoth’s assistant, has been in an interim role while the club sought a new coach.
Pamzo, who guided Tusker FC to the Premier League title in 2011, is tasked with orchestrating a turnaround for the club, which has struggled with poor results since returning to the topflight league. The recent 1-0 defeat to Muhoroni Youth on Sunday at the Raila Odinga Stadium, marking their ninth loss of the season, led to violence among fans, leaving one person injured.
In a statement on Wednesday, the club justified the appointment of Pamzo based on his extensive experience and successful coaching history with Tusker FC, Posta Rangers, and Kenya Police. The club expressed confidence that under Pamzo’s guidance, Shabana FC would thrive and continue to uphold its rich legacy.
Shabana has endured a challenging start to the season, with only three wins, nine defeats, and currently occupying the 17th position on the table with 14 points, just one point above bottom-placed Nzoia Sugar.
The statement further welcomed Pamzo and urged supporters, players, and staff to unite and offer full support as he leads Shabana FC into a new chapter. The club expressed excitement about the prospect of working together to achieve collective goals and emphasized Pamzo’s leadership skills and ability to inspire players.
Pamzo’s tenure with Shabana FC begins this weekend at Sudi Stadium in a match against fellow strugglers Nzoia Sugar.
