Senator Kathuri Murungi has criticized the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) following an incident where President Ruto’s official vehicle experienced a tire blowout after hitting a pothole on the Meru-Embu highway.
Speaking at Ntharene along the highway on Monday, Senator Murungi expressed concern over the safety implications of the incident, particularly if it had occurred while the vehicle was traveling downhill.
“I was deeply saddened to see the President’s vehicle hit a pothole and suffer a tire blowout,” remarked the Senator on Monday. “Just imagine if we were traveling downhill when it happened; the consequences for the Head of State could have been far worse.”
According to the Senator, the incident occurred on Saturday, January 27, as the presidential motorcade ascended a hill. He emphasized the potential severity of the situation had the vehicle been traveling downhill at the time.
Senator Kathuri attributed the deteriorating condition of the Meru-Embu highway, characterized by numerous potholes, to KeNHA’s neglect. He urged KeNHA to prioritize repairs on the highway and to also upgrade certain busy KERRA Roads to meet KeNHA standards.
Additionally, the Senator advocated for the involvement of local contractors in maintenance efforts, citing their ability to expedite repairs when necessary.
