Bondo, Siaya County, January 2, 2025 A historic gathering took place today at the Got Ramogi shrine in Bondo, Siaya County, as President William Ruto, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, and Azimio leader Raila Odinga came together to celebrate the annual Piny Luo Cultural Festival.

The highly anticipated event, which has become a significant cultural highlight in the region, is being held at the shrine, a sacred site of great importance to the Luo community.

Uganda’s President Museveni, who is the chief guest for this year’s celebration, was warmly received earlier at the Kenya-Uganda border in Busia by Kenya’s Energy Cabinet Secretary, Opiyo Wandayi.

His arrival marks an important moment in the strengthening of the relationship between Kenya and Uganda, further promoting cultural exchange and mutual understanding between the two neighboring nations.

The Piny Luo Festival, which has been ongoing in Migwena, Bondo, is designed to celebrate and promote Luo culture and traditions. The event brings together a diverse group of people from across Kenya and Uganda, offering an opportunity to reflect on the shared history and cultural ties between the two countries. The festivities include traditional music, dances, and various cultural performances that highlight the rich heritage of the Luo community.

A highlight of the day’s festivities is a friendly football match between Kenya’s Gor Mahia, the current Premier League champions, and Uganda’s Kitara FC. The friendly match, expected to attract large crowds, is seen as a symbol of the strong sporting ties between the two nations and an opportunity for both countries to celebrate their shared love for football.

The Piny Luo Festival continues to grow in significance, drawing both local and international attention. As it reaches its climax this year, the event showcases not only the vibrant traditions of the Luo people but also the spirit of regional unity and cooperation between Kenya and Uganda.

The participation of prominent leaders like President Ruto, President Museveni, and Raila Odinga underscores the importance of the festival as a platform for promoting peace, unity, and cultural preservation across East Africa.
