Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina approved the bond on Friday morning.
Kamunge’s defense team had opposed the bond request, asking the court for an additional seven days to complete their investigation.
In his ruling, Magistrate Onyina noted that the prosecution had not provided sufficient reasons for her continued detention. He pointed out that there was no evidence suggesting the suspect’s safety was at risk or that multiple complainants had filed grievances against her.
The magistrate ordered Kamunge to report to the investigating officer regularly until the case is resolved.
Kamunge, operating under the name Trustpine Verified Agent Ltd, is accused of offering overseas job opportunities to Kenyans in exchange for payments ranging from Ksh. 200,000 to Ksh. 300,000. However, after receiving the money, she allegedly failed to deliver the promised jobs and became unreachable.
Police reports indicate that several complaints were filed against Kamunge between January 1 and March 20, 2025. The victims claim they were instructed to send money through M-Pesa to a number registered under Kamunge’s name. After not receiving the promised jobs, they attempted to contact her, but she reportedly went into hiding.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), 43 victims collectively sent Ksh. 12.9 million to Kamunge. She was arrested on March 26, 2025, at an office building in Nairobi after being captured by members of the public, who handed her over to Central Police Station.
Since her arrest, more victims have come forward with similar complaints, prompting the DCI to request an extension of her detention.
