Rebecca Miano Reacts to Omission from Cabinet Nominees List

Rebecca Miano has responded following her omission from President William Ruto’s list of nominees submitted to the National Assembly for vetting, a move that has sparked public speculation.

Miano, previously serving as Cabinet Secretary for Investments and Trade, was slated for reassignment as Attorney General in Ruto’s recent Cabinet nominations.

Expressing gratitude for the nomination on her social media account on July 19, 2024, she pledged commitment to serving Kenya diligently.

However, during the presentation of nominees to the Assembly by Speaker Moses Wetangula on Tuesday, Miano’s name was conspicuously absent, contrasting with the inclusion of ten other nominees.

The reason for her exclusion remains unclear, with no official communication clarifying whether Miano’s nomination has been withdrawn or if a reassignment is imminent.

Responding to the situation, Miano later posted a message on her social media account advising against reacting to rumors: “When rumour mills are rolling, the well-advised stay still.”

Her cautious statement comes amidst swirling speculations about her status regarding the Cabinet nomination.

President Ruto is expected to announce a second round of nominees soon. Meanwhile, Speaker Wetangula confirmed that all nominees, including those being reappointed, will undergo rigorous vetting by Parliament.

“The list presented to this House is what I have read to you. No one will assume the role of Minister until the President writes to Parliament, until Parliament convenes in Committee to vet, and until the entire House votes on the vetting Committee’s report,” Wetangula stated.
