Prof. Edward Kisiang’ani, the Principal Secretary of the State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, has called upon Parliament to ramp up budgetary allocations to accelerate the government’s communications and digital transformation agenda.
In a passionate plea, Prof. Kisiang’ani emphasized the critical need for increased funding to empower key government agencies in driving digitization and digitalization efforts.
He highlighted that additional funding is essential for facilitating the digitization of government services and ensuring effective communication of government achievements to the public.
The Principal Secretary lamented the significant budget deficit of Sh8 billion faced by the state department, emphasizing that this shortfall is impeding efforts to establish a robust digital infrastructure.
He underscored the importance of bridging this financial gap to streamline the delivery and accessibility of government services, particularly in underserved communities.
Speaking during an engagement session with the National Assembly Committee on ICT in Naivasha, Prof. Kisiang’ani urged committee members to reconsider and revamp budgetary allocations to the Ministry.
He stressed the urgency of accelerating the deployment, adoption, and migration to digital technology to keep pace with global advancements.
Furthermore, Prof. Kisiang’ani highlighted the pivotal role of the state department in advancing the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
He emphasized that adequate funding is imperative to ensure the timely achievement of targets and the successful realization of the government’s economic objectives.
