Deputy President Rigathi departed the country on Tuesday night for South Africa to attend the inauguration of President-elect Cyril Ramphosa.
The inauguration, scheduled for Wednesday, June 19 in Pretoria, will see Deputy President Rigathi representing President William Ruto. He was accompanied on the Kenya Airways flight by Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thangwa.
This decision to use Kenya Airways follows recent calls from Kenyans urging top leaders to travel with the national carrier when visiting foreign countries.

Njeri Rugene, head of Deputy Presidential Communication Service, stated that Deputy President Rigathi will deliver a congratulatory message from President Ruto to President Ramaphosa and the people of South Africa.
Rugene emphasized the ongoing efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties between Kenya and South Africa for the mutual benefit of their citizens.

Ramaphosa secured a second term after the May 29 elections, with South Africa’s Parliament re-electing him as president through a coalition agreement between the African National Congress (ANC) and opposition parties.

This coalition emerged after the ANC lost its parliamentary majority for the first time in 30 years.
