NTSA Warns of Increased Road Dangers as Heavy Rains Persist

In a public advisory, NTSA urged motorists to exercise greater caution and remain mindful of both their safety and that of other road users.

Pedestrians were also encouraged to use designated crossing areas to reduce the risk of accidents.

Passengers were reminded that they too play a role in road safety. The Authority advised them to speak up and request the driver to stop if they feel the situation on the road has become unsafe.

NTSA further outlined key safety guidelines for drivers during the rainy season. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead and reduce speed, as braking distances tend to increase on wet roads.

Drivers were also urged to switch on their headlights when it rains to enhance visibility for other motorists and to ensure windshield wipers are functioning properly to clear rain from the windscreen.

In addition, the Authority advised that stalled vehicles should be cleared from the road promptly and warned drivers against attempting to drive through flooded sections of the road.

The NTSA Director General emphasised that road safety requires cooperation from everyone using the roads.

The warning comes as prolonged rains continue to impact various regions, raising concerns over accidents linked to slippery roads and reduced visibility.

Authorities stressed that observing these safety measures is vital to preventing crashes and protecting lives.

Transport experts also pointed out that wet weather conditions significantly raise the risk of collisions, particularly when drivers fail to slow down or maintain safe following distances.

They noted that careful driving, alertness, and adherence to safety guidelines can greatly reduce accidents during extreme weather.

NTSA reiterated that prioritising safety over speed is crucial during the rainy season. Motorists are encouraged to plan their trips carefully and stay alert, while pedestrians and passengers should remain cautious at all times.

The Authority concluded by reminding all road users that preventing accidents during the rainy season requires collective responsibility. 🚗🌧️
