UDA Reschedules Nakuru Grassroots Elections to Avoid Clash with Safari Rally

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has pushed forward the repeat Phase III grassroots elections in Nakuru County to prevent a scheduling conflict with the upcoming Safari Rally Kenya set to take place in the region.

In a notice issued on March 6, the UDA National Elections Board announced that the elections, which had been planned for Saturday, March 14, 2026, will now take place on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

According to the board, the decision was made to allow party officials, members, and candidates to fully participate in and accommodate the globally recognised motorsport event, which is part of the World Rally Championship and is scheduled to run from March 12 to March 15.

Safari Rally Kenya is among the most renowned motorsport competitions worldwide and serves as a key round of the World Rally Championship (WRC). The event draws leading international drivers, racing teams, and thousands of spectators to Kenya annually.

In the notice, the board informed all party leaders, members, and candidates that the repeat Phase III grassroots elections in Nakuru County had been postponed from the earlier date.

The board explained that the adjustment was necessary because the Safari Rally typically attracts large crowds of rally teams, officials, and fans to the county.

It further stated that the change was made in recognition of the county’s role in hosting the international rally event scheduled between March 12 and March 15, 2026.

As a result, the repeat grassroots elections will now be conducted two weeks later to allow for better coordination and participation by party members throughout the county.

The party has asked its leaders, members, and candidates in Nakuru to take note of the revised date and prepare accordingly.

The communication was signed by the chairman of the UDA National Elections Board, Anthony Mwaura, who thanked members for their understanding and cooperation regarding the adjustment.

The grassroots polls are part of UDA’s ongoing internal process aimed at electing party officials at ward, constituency, and county levels across the country as the party works to strengthen its internal structures.

Meanwhile, the Safari Rally typically runs for four days, with drivers competing across numerous stages that stretch over hundreds of kilometres of challenging terrain.

The event attracts thousands of both local and international fans and plays a significant role in boosting tourism, hospitality, and local business in the host region, while also placing Kenya prominently on the global sporting stage as one of the few African nations hosting a WRC event.
