‘NI FOREX AMA MUMAMA’:Cheeky Message Boards Hit Kenya’s Nightclub Scene

In recent months, Kenya’s nightclub scene has witnessed a viral revolution, enhancing the party experience and becoming a trend in major nightclubs. Similar to global party hubs like Dubai, buying expensive alcohol in Kenya not only grants VIP seating but also an ostentatious delivery, capturing attention.

In Nairobi and other party towns like Nakuru, Eldoret, Meru, and Kisumu, club hostesses have adopted a flamboyant method to deliver expensive bottles to VIP clients. Models dance with flickering sparklers, carrying fluorescent message boards with personalized messages – often silly quotes or birthday announcements.

As the popularity of message boards grows, creative marketing teams invest in cheeky inscriptions on the electronic boards. This trend, now a topic of discussion in Kenya’s nightlife, started in niche city nightclubs before spreading to far-flung towns like Eldoret.

At Eldoret’s Baniyas Square nightclub, the message boards have transformed the party scene, captivating revelers with their cheekiness and wit. Club directors invest in marketing teams to craft viral quotes, making the boards a hit with patrons.

Kikao Chill and Vibe, located at Kamiti Corner, claims to have initiated the phenomenon, enhancing the revelers’ experience. The hostesses’ swinging message boards around the club has become an eagerly awaited spectacle.

Whisky Paradise’s club manager, Grace Mukami, states that the idea was borrowed from international nightclubs frequented by big spenders. The boards, produced by a Miami-based company called Nightlife Supplies, have become a unique feature in Kenya’s nightlife, sparking conversations and improving marketing efforts.

The message boards, also known as bottle presenters, are used to dazzle clients who purchase expensive bottles like Martel, Hennessy, Remy Martin, or Double Black. Accompanied by sparklers and svelte-figured club hostesses, the presentation momentarily halts the revelry in honor of the high-spending client.
