President Ruto Impressed by Student Earning 26k Weekly on Remotask

On Tuesday, January 16, President William Ruto, accompanied by Deputy Rigathi Gachagua, visited the government Jitume labs in Nandi County.

During the visit, President Ruto engaged with youth working online and making significant earnings through Remotask, a platform that pays users for completing data entry tasks.

Ruto expressed admiration for a student who is making a living online through the government’s Jitume ICT Laboratories.

In a video circulating on social media, the President is seen marveling at Brian’s success in online work.

Brian Kipchumba, a student pursuing a Diploma in ICT, shared his achievements in online jobs.

“I want to show you my success through digital platforms, and I am still in school,” said Kipchumba.

Kipchumba revealed that he earned $284 since December 26, 2023, which is close to Ksh 45,724, but receives Ksh 40,000 after taxation.

He explained that users of the website are given specific tasks with allotted time before being paid for their work.

President Ruto encouraged him to motivate other Kenyans to explore job opportunities in the digital space.

“I can tell them that online pays, and you can come to Jitume labs with free internet connection and work online.”

Public Reactions

The video has garnered mixed reactions on social media. Some criticized Kipchumba, claiming he exposed students to scrutiny, particularly at a time when President Ruto is advocating for tax increases. Others felt Kipchumba should have discussed challenges affecting the youth directly with the President.
