Robert Alai: If Ruto Aims For Success, He Should Part Ways with Gachagua

As discussions about the 2027 elections heat up in Kenyan politics, Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai has expressed the opinion that President William Ruto should consider replacing his deputy.

During an interview on TV47’s Morning Cafe, Alai commented on the president’s frequent travels, stating, “These travels by the president are not yielding much because it is either he is trying to resolve things he does not understand or trying to prove he is the only person who can be smart.”

Alai emphasized that for President Ruto to succeed in transforming Kenya, he should consider overhauling the cabinet, starting with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

“I want President Ruto to succeed. If President Ruto was to succeed, he had to probably overhaul the cabinet starting from the deputy president going down,” added Alai.

In response, Kiruga Thuku, a counterpart from Chinga, countered the argument, highlighting the benefits of Ruto’s foreign trips.

“The President does not want to be seen as smart; he is a smart guy. The President is the chief diplomat of this country. He is on record saying these are not leisure trips he has been making,” stated Thuku, who is also the Chair of UDA MCAs caucus.

Thuku listed achievements resulting from the president’s foreign trips, including securing job opportunities and enhancing Kenya’s reputation in climate change matters. Regarding Ruto’s working relationships, Thuku asserted that the president has the prerogative to choose his Cabinet members, and it is not for others to decide.
