Hon. Peninah Malonza, the Cabinet Secretary for Arid and Semi-Arid Lands and Regional Development, on Wednesday visited Kitui County to provide relief food to residents affected by the recent El Niño rains in various areas, including Mbusyani, Kisasi Ward, Ngutani, Migwani, Koma Kyome Thaana, among others.

The El Niño rains have brought about challenges, impacting the lives and livelihoods of citizens in Kitui Rural and Mwingi West.
In her address, Minister Malonza acknowledged the adversity faced by the affected communities. According to CS Malonza, under the leadership of Dr. William Ruto, the government has taken prompt action to offer relief and support to those in need. Emphasizing unity and collaboration, she encouraged everyone to join hands with the government in these relief efforts. 
While distributing essential relief food, she expressed a commitment beyond immediate relief, envisioning a future of sustainable development for arid and semi-arid lands. Minister Malonza highlighted the instrumental support from the central government, led by Dr. William Ruto, in realizing this vision.
“Our commitment to your well-being goes beyond immediate relief. We envision a future of sustainable development for arid and semi-arid lands, and your resilience fuels our determination,” said the former Kitui Deputy Governor.
She urged the community to unite in advocating for the needs of the people, calling upon the residents and elected leaders of Ukambani to prioritize unity and support for President Dr. William Ruto’s administration.
“It is crucial that we, as a community, stand united in advocating for the needs of our people, I call upon the people of Ukambani and our elected leaders to prioritize unity and support for President [Dr. William Ruto’s] administration. Together, we can amplify our voices and ensure that the Kamba community receives the development it rightfully deserves,” She added.

Minister Malonza emphasized the importance of transcending political differences and working collectively towards a brighter and more prosperous future. She concluded by expressing gratitude and hoping that collective efforts would lead to enduring progress and resilience in the face of challenges.
