A Nairobi attorney is hospitalized in critical condition after being shot by unidentified assailants on the Isiolo-Modogashe Road.
Anthony Gathitu Kabathi, a lawyer associated with the Kabuthi and Company Advocates law firm, was returning to Nairobi from a client meeting in Garissa when the attack occurred near Laga Logo, approximately five kilometers from a police camp. The incident took place on the morning of Sunday, January 28, in an area known for criminal activity.
According to police reports, Kabathi sustained severe gunshot wounds to his chest, left hand, thumb, and left abdomen during the ambush. General Service Unit officers, responding to a public distress call, found Kabathi bleeding inside his Landcruiser V8, which had been forced off the road by the assailants. The attackers had robbed Kabathi of an undisclosed amount of money and other belongings.
After administering first aid at the scene, the GSU officers transported Kabathi to Isiolo Galaxy Hospital, where he is currently in stable condition. Plans were underway to transfer him to Nairobi for further treatment. Meanwhile, the Isiolo Police Station has taken custody of Kabathi’s vehicle as part of their investigation into the incident.
Authorities suspect that the attackers targeted Kabathi for monetary gain and are investigating whether the assault was premeditated. They caution motorists against traveling through the area due to its history of insecurity, with bandits known to target both humans and animals.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has pledged additional resources to address the security challenges in the region and ensure the safety of residents and travelers.
