Former Public Service CS Justin Muturi, in collaboration with Devolution Empowerment Party chair Lenny Kivuti, has officially endorsed the Democratic Party (DP) candidate for the seat.
In a post shared on his official X account on Sunday evening, June 15, 2025, Muturi revealed that Newton Kariuki, popularly known as Newton Karish, had been unveiled as the DP’s flagbearer during a public event at Kanyuombora Grounds.
Muturi lauded Karish’s leadership in Mumenji Ward, describing him as a community-rooted leader with a strong track record of service.
“Following a blessed service at ACK St John’s Kanyuombora, we gathered at Kanyuombora Grounds for a pivotal event. Alongside Hon. Lenny Kivuti and other leaders, I was proud to present Hon. Newton Karish as the Democratic Party’s official candidate for the Mbeere North by-election,” Muturi stated.
He emphasized the need for unity and people-centred leadership, saying, “Karish embodies the values of Mbeere. The path forward requires unity, strategy, and leadership that reflects the people’s voice. The DP is ready — and so is Mbeere North.”
The date for the by-election is pending and will be announced after the swearing-in of the new Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) team.
Several aspirants have shown interest in the seat, though official campaigns have yet to begin.
