The body of a lecturer from the University of Nairobi who had been reported missing was located at the City Mortuary.
Dr. Samuel Mbutu Mararo, aged 37, served as a lecturer in political science at UON and was a father of two.
His disappearance was reported last Thursday, February 22, after he failed to return home for three consecutive days. His family, in efforts to locate him, circulated posters seeking information about his whereabouts.
According to authorities, Dr. Mbutu’s body was brought to City Mortuary on February 20 after being discovered on the streets of Nairobi.
The cause of death remains undetermined at this time.
His brother, Joseph Kagirj, confirmed the identification of the body on Tuesday morning. Kagiri revealed that the body was recovered from the Bus Station area, where it was found lying by the roadside.
Kagiri suspects foul play, suggesting that the lecturer may have been drugged and robbed of his belongings, including his laptop, mobile phone, and cash, though no physical injuries were evident.
Although the body was taken to the mortuary on February 20, it took a week for the family to positively identify it.
The family believes Dr. Mbutu was en route to his residence in Kariobangi when the incident occurred. They suspect he may have been drugged, robbed, and potentially assaulted.
The perpetrators allegedly accessed his M-Pesa account to withdraw an undisclosed sum of money, with transactions traced to Kayole.
Nairobi area police chief Adamson Bungei stated that no arrests have been made regarding the homicide but assured that investigations are underway. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday to ascertain the cause of death.
