Ugandan human rights activist Agather Atuhaire has accused Tanzanian authorities of stripping, torturing, and assaulting her before dumping her at the Mutukula border, just hours after Kenyan activist Boniface Mwangi was similarly abandoned at the Horohoro border post.

Atuhaire described harrowing abuse, including being beaten, gagged, and raped, saying the violence echoed Mwangi’s experience, who is now hospitalized in Nairobi.
Her claims have sparked outrage across East Africa, with human rights groups and political leaders, including Martha Karua and Kalonzo Musyoka, condemning the Tanzanian government and demanding accountability from President Samia Suluhu’s administration.
Activists have vowed to pursue legal action and called for a united regional stand against state-sponsored human rights violations.
