President William Ruto and various leaders gathered at Ulinzi Sports Complex in Lang’ata, Nairobi, for a military tribute and memorial service honoring Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla.
Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale had announced Ruto, Deputy Rigathi Gachagua, and other dignitaries’ attendance. Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, senior government officials, parliamentary leadership, judiciary representatives, political figures, security sector commanders, and diplomats also attended.

General Ogolla was one of ten officers who perished in a helicopter crash near the Elgeyo Marakwet-Uasin Gichu border while on a peace mission in the Rift Valley region, which has been troubled by cattle rustling and banditry.

Ogolla’s remains will be transported to Ng’iya village, Alego Usonga sub-county in Siaya County, for burial on Sunday. Additionally, Duale announced a national memorial service scheduled for April 26, 2024, at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, Lang’ata, as per the family’s request.
