The veteran politician was last seen publicly on October 15, when images of him celebrating his 83rd birthday in hospital emerged. The date also marked the first anniversary of the death of his younger brother, former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga.

In a message shared on his birthday, Oburu reflected on the emotional significance of the day, describing it as a moment that brought together life, remembrance and the bond he shared with Raila.

“Today, October 15th, is far more than just a date on the calendar; it is a sacred intersection of life and eternity,” he wrote.

He further observed that sharing his birthday with the anniversary of Raila’s death represented a special connection between them, adding that their bond remained unbroken despite his brother’s passing.

“As I mark the anniversary of my birth, I carry your spirit within mine, bound by a shared journey that transcends time and an eternal connection that death has no power to break,” Oburu stated.

His hospital admission generated widespread discussion on social media, with supporters seeking updates about his condition as the country marked the first anniversary of Raila’s death.

The ODM leader had previously dismissed claims that he was seriously ill following an earlier visit to a Nairobi hospital, explaining that he had undergone routine medical examinations.

At the time, Oburu said he was recuperating at his Nairobi home and refuted online reports suggesting that his condition was critical or that access to him had been restricted.

He also assured supporters that he would communicate openly if his health situation changed.

“The day I am truly sick, I will inform you all, for I am a very transparent person,” he said.

Oburu’s discharge comes as ODM continues to navigate its leadership transition following Raila’s death. As the party’s new leader, the Siaya Senator faces the task of shaping its political direction and consolidating its position ahead of the 2027 General Election.
