The event came just days ahead of President William Ruto’s expected tour of the region and is part of Kindiki’s countrywide economic empowerment campaign.
Kindiki, who has recently stepped up his public engagements, has been leading a series of high-profile fundraisers across Kenya alongside prominent Kenya Kwanza figures. Questions continue to swirl over the origin of the funds fueling these drives.
In Kitui, Kindiki was joined by senior UDA officials and President Ruto’s close ally Farouk Kibet—signaling a strong political push ahead of Ruto’s visit. The empowerment tour will continue in Makueni County, with planned stops in Zombe (Kitui East) and Mukuyuni (Kaiti).
The Ukambani visit came a day after Kindiki presided over the 2025 National Macadamia Conference in Embu, where he reiterated the government’s commitment to banning raw macadamia exports in favor of local value addition.
He emphasized that the industry could generate over Sh10 billion annually and create around 30,000 jobs.
However, not all his engagements have been smooth. During an event in Othaya, Nyeri County, Kindiki was heckled by a group shouting “one term,” prompting security to intervene. In a veiled attack believed to be aimed at Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Kindiki criticized leaders who intimidate others.
“Leadership is not about bullying others or pretending to be the only one who matters. Respect doesn’t mean submission,” he said.
Defending the ongoing harambees, Kindiki maintained that the empowerment programs targeting small-scale traders and boda boda operators would continue, dismissing critics as election-season opportunists.
“Our priority is improving lives, raising incomes, and driving development. We’re not here for endless political drama,” he added.
