Kenyan Woman Lures British Lover, Robs Him Sh800K — DCI

Detectives in Nyali, Mombasa County, have arrested a woman accused of masterminding a robbery against her British boyfriend after luring him to her apartment in what investigators have dubbed a “romantic date gone wrong.”

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the woman had been chatting with the Briton online for several months, convincing him she was in love and ready to build a future together.

Swayed by her affection, the man travelled to Kenya and checked into a hotel in Mtwapa on October 25, 2025. He stayed there until November 2, when the woman invited him to her fifth-floor residence in Nyali.

Unaware of the trap, he took a taxi to her home — but minutes after arriving, two men burst into the room. One claimed to be the woman’s furious husband, accusing the Briton of breaking up his marriage, while the other posed as a police officer, flashing a fake ID and threatening arrest.

In panic, the victim was forced to transfer Sh800,000 from his bank account to four mobile numbers provided by the gang. After receiving the money, the suspects escorted him out of the apartment and disappeared.

The shaken tourist later reported the incident to police.

Following forensic leads, detectives tracked down and arrested the woman and one of her accomplices in Bamburi on November 10, 2025.

The DCI said the two are part of a criminal network that preys on foreigners through online dating platforms, inviting them to private apartments or short-term rentals before robbing them.

The suspects are in custody awaiting court charges, as police intensify the search for the third accomplice still on the run.
