City lawyer Donald Kipkorir has announced that he will donate his entire Sh1 million court award from his case against Muthaiga Country Club to a cancer charity, honoring the memory of his late mother.
Kipkorir revealed that the gesture is inspired by the loss of his mother to stomach cancer on May 27, 2023. She passed away in Qatar while returning from India, where she had sought treatment.

“My mother suffered and died from stomach cancer two years ago. I took her to hospitals locally and in India, but she passed away in Qatar on our way home,” he said on Tuesday.
He confirmed that the donation will come directly from the damages awarded to him, stating, “In her memory, I will give all the money Muthaiga Country Club was ordered to pay me to a Cancer Charity.”
The lawyer also spoke about the financial burden of his mother’s illness, saying he bore the costs entirely on his own.
The Sh1 million award was granted last Friday after the High Court ruled that Muthaiga Country Club had violated Kipkorir’s constitutional rights by denying him entry despite being invited by a member.
Justice Chacha Mwita found that the club acted unlawfully and arbitrarily by blocking Kipkorir without giving a valid reason or prior notice. “The petitioner was not given a reason for being denied entry before the August 9, 2024 incident, making it unclear when the exclusion decision was made,” the judge noted.
While the court dismissed claims of racial discrimination, it held that the club failed to justify its actions.

Kipkorir told the court that he had been visiting the club for over two decades as a guest of members and clients and had never been barred before. He described the exclusion as humiliating, disruptive to his work, and reminiscent of “colonial-era discrimination.”
The club defended its decision, claiming Kipkorir was blocked after posting a negative social media comment about one of its chefs and that the information had been shared with the inviting member.
After the ruling, Kipkorir praised Justice Mwita, saying, “The judge, one of our finest, held that MCC violated my constitutional rights and cannot refuse me entry when invited by a member. I was awarded Sh1 million in damages plus legal costs.”
Kipkorir confirmed that the entire award will now go to support cancer care, turning a personal ordeal into a tribute to his mother’s memory.
