Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has begun preparing for his 2027 presidential campaign, with a renewed focus on engaging the youth.
On Tuesday, he chaired the Wiper National Executive Council meeting at the party’s Nairobi headquarters, where he introduced former Youth Fund chairman Gor Semelang’o as a new member. Semelang’o will lead youth engagement and media outreach for the party.
Kalonzo expressed optimism about the party’s direction, noting that their team is growing stronger. The move follows the recent rebranding of the party to Wiper Patriotic Front, aimed at better representing the aspirations of Kenyans — especially the youth.
“Political parties must evolve with the people,” Kalonzo said, adding that the new name reflects a commitment to rebuilding the nation.
He reaffirmed the party’s intention to field candidates at all levels in 2027, including presidential, gubernatorial, parliamentary, and county assembly races.
Emphasizing the importance of young voters, Kalonzo described Wiper as “the party of the future” and “a natural home for Gen Z.” He encouraged youth to join the movement, which he framed as a patriotic and inclusive platform.
Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo confirmed that Kalonzo will be Wiper’s presidential candidate, citing his integrity and readiness to combat corruption. He added that a National Delegates Conference will soon formalize Kalonzo’s bid as part of a broader opposition alliance.

Kalonzo reiterated the opposition’s main goal: unseating President William Ruto. He called for unity and leadership, stressing that the challenge ahead is about protecting Kenya’s democracy and the vision of the 2010 Constitution.
Since youth-led protests began in mid-2024, political parties across the board have stepped up efforts to appeal to young voters. While the Kenya Kwanza government has launched various youth initiatives, opposition parties like ODM have also mobilized their youth wings.
With 5.6 million Kenyans aged 15–19 as of last year, a significant number will be eligible to vote in 2027, making Gen Z a powerful electoral force.
