Jowie Appeals Death Sentence for Monica Kimani Murder

Joseph Irungu, also known as Jowie, has submitted a notice of appeal against the death penalty he received from the High Court for the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani in 2018.

The notice reveals Jowie’s intention to contest both his conviction and the subsequent sentencing by Lady Justice Grace Nzioka.

Jowie, represented by his lawyer Andrew Muge, aims to challenge the court’s decision based on the verdict and sentencing delivered on February 9, 2024.

The appeal, according to the court document, focuses on disputing the conviction and the severity of the sentence. Jowie, who plans to attend the appeal hearing, was found guilty of Monica’s murder and received the death penalty for his involvement in the crime.

Justice Nzioka justified the maximum sentence by citing the seriousness of the evidence presented during the trial and Jowie’s character.
