According to viral clips shared on social media, the woman began delivering on the roadside, prompting the driver to reroute the matatu—with passengers still onboard—to Saitoti Hospital in Kajiado County.
“A woman almost gave birth on the roadside. The driver, Baba Ian, diverted and took her to Saitoti Hospital. Why isn’t this being reported?” a witness filming the moment asked.
Despite recent negative attention directed at Super Metro Sacco due to traffic accidents and NTSA bans, this incident has brought a wave of positive recognition for the crew’s humanity and quick action.
Another motorist in the video commended the matatu team, saying, “God bless Super Metro. We’re now almost at Saitoti with the mother and her newborn, delivered in the vehicle. The driver stopped and helped her—may he and the passengers be blessed.”
The matatu’s original route remains unclear, but the spontaneous rescue has struck a chord with many Kenyans, highlighting compassion in public service.
