Peter Salasya, the Member of Parliament for Mumias East, has officially announced his candidacy for the gubernatorial seat in the upcoming 2027 General Election.
Taking to social media on Sunday, the legislator confirmed that his ambitious decision is now finalized, and he will be a candidate on the ballot in the next election.
In the 2022 General Election, Salasya secured the parliamentary seat under the Democratic Action Party Kenya (DAP-K), led by former Defense Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa. Despite being a first-time MP, Salasya has faced criticism for his public conduct, becoming embroiled in several controversies.
One notable incident occurred on January 13 when Salasya was arrested on charges of assaulting Malaha-Isongo-Makunga MCA Peter Indimuli during a funeral in Kakamega County.
Facing allegations of assault, causing physical harm, and creating a disturbance that could lead to a breach of peace, Salasya was granted release on a Ksh.50,000 bail after his apprehension.
In connection to the incident, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has summoned Salasya to record a statement.
