Earlier in the week, the same elephants were reportedly involved in the death of Ms Eunice Kuria Maora, a 35-year-old ECDE teacher from Lairupa Village.

In a statement, KWS expressed condolences to the bereaved families, colleagues and the wider Lodokilani community, saying it shared in their grief following the tragic losses.

The agency said it responded promptly to the incidents, working with other agencies and taking lawful action to prevent further loss of life. KWS added that it is stepping up support for affected families while strengthening measures to reduce human–wildlife conflict.

KWS reaffirmed its commitment to protecting human life while promoting peaceful coexistence between communities and wildlife.

Residents of Kajiado West have increasingly complained about frequent elephant incursions into settlements, a situation that has heightened calls for stronger conflict mitigation efforts. The county remains prone to such conflicts due to its proximity to major wildlife ecosystems like Amboseli and Tsavo, as well as established elephant migratory routes.

Communities have reported repeated crop destruction and property damage, especially during dry seasons when wildlife moves in search of water and pasture. The loss and disruption of traditional migratory corridors have further escalated risky encounters.

Local leaders have urged authorities to implement preventive measures to keep wildlife away from populated areas. Some residents have also raised concerns over delays in compensation for victims of human–wildlife conflict.

KWS said it remains focused on timely response, community support and long-term solutions, urging residents to stay alert and observe safety guidelines issued by wildlife officers and local authorities, particularly during periods of increased animal movement.
