The High Court is set to make a ruling on a new bond application filed by former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu.
Waititu, who has been in prison since February after being convicted in a corruption case, is seeking to be granted bond while he awaits the hearing and outcome of his appeal.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has opposed the application, arguing that the court had already made a decision on this matter, rendering the new request invalid.
Waititu was sentenced to 12 years in prison or a fine of 53 million Shillings after a magistrate’s court found him guilty on corruption-related charges. His first bond application was rejected by Justice Lucy Njuguna on March 3, 2025.
The former governor’s previous appeal for bail, based on health reasons, was dismissed for failing to meet the legal criteria required for release pending an appeal.
Additionally, Waititu was barred from running for any political office for seven years.
Waititu was charged alongside his wife, Susan Ndung’u, who was sentenced to one year in prison or a fine of 500,000 Shillings.
