Police officers arrived at the scene after receiving reports that a body had been found at the house. Upon arrival, they found the gate and main door open.

Inside the residence, officers found Kabere lying on his back on a bed, with blood coming from his mouth and nose.

A search of the house led to the recovery of a wallet containing a Certificate of Appointment bearing the officer’s details, which helped confirm his identity.

Police said there were no visible external injuries on the body.

Crime scene investigators processed the residence before the body was transported to the Kenyatta University Referral Mortuary. A post-mortem examination is expected to establish the cause of death.

Investigations have been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death.

Suspected robber shot dead in Maragua

Meanwhile, police in Maragua, Murang’a County, shot dead a suspected robber during a late-night operation to rescue a man who was allegedly being held hostage and robbed by armed men.

The incident occurred at around 11:50 p.m. on Thursday in the Mutaro area, where three men allegedly confronted Vincent Ogongo Abuya in a maize plantation.

Police said they received information that Abuya was being held by the suspects and immediately dispatched officers from Maragua Police Station, including the duty team and Crime Aid personnel.

Upon reaching the scene, officers encountered three men who were allegedly armed with machetes.

According to police, officers ordered the suspects to surrender, but one of the men allegedly moved towards a female officer while raising a machete.

The officer responded by firing two rounds from an AK-47 rifle in what police described as self-defence, fatally shooting the suspect.

The other two suspects reportedly escaped into the darkness and police have launched a manhunt for them.

Officers recovered an Oppo R12 mobile phone believed to have been stolen from the victim, two Type-C chargers, a machete and a button phone allegedly belonging to the deceased suspect.

The unidentified suspect’s body was taken to Murang’a Level Five Hospital Mortuary pending identification and a post-mortem examination.
