Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has called for the resignation of Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale and UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar, describing both men as unfit for public office following controversial ethnic remarks by Duale.
The former Vice President made the comments on Saturday while attending the burial of Pastor William Muthengi in Mumoni, Kitui County. He argued that Duale and Hassan Omar should be judged by the same low standard as the government they represent, telling mourners in Kiswahili that both officials ought to step down, calling them as incompetent as their principal.

Kalonzo also used the platform to warn against the erosion of State House’s dignity, insisting the seat of government should function as a place of service to all citizens rather than a base for cartel activity or division.
He further criticized the administration over ongoing abduction cases, accusing President Ruto of contradicting his own public assurance that such actions — allegedly carried out by state-linked “goons” — had stopped. Kalonzo cautioned that continued use of security forces against dissenting voices would ultimately cost the President the public’s trust.
Shifting to the recently concluded Ol Kalou by-election, Kalonzo described the outcome as a preview of what future elections would look like, suggesting it reflected mounting frustration — particularly among young Kenyans — over corruption and unemployment despite heavy government spending, including a supplementary budget, to influence the race. He characterized the result as evidence of a new political consciousness taking hold in the country.
Kalonzo’s comments come amid escalating backlash against Duale over a viral clip in which he allegedly drew comparisons between the Somali and Kikuyu communities. In the video, Duale reportedly claimed Somalis faced historical marginalization under Presidents Jomo Kenyatta, Mwai Kibaki, and Uhuru Kenyatta, crediting President Ruto with reversing that trend. Speaking to a Mandera County audience in vernacular, Duale allegedly suggested that Mount Kenya-region leaders had contributed less to the North than the current government has.
The National Cohesion and Integration Commission has launched an investigation into the remarks over concerns they could incite ethnic tension. Duale has denied wrongdoing, claiming his statements were taken out of context and misquoted. The episode has also sparked concern in the Senate, where legislators across the political divide warned that such rhetoric threatens to reignite tensions reminiscent of the 2007/08 post-election violence, with the 2027 General Election on the horizon.
