Once finished, the stadium will have a seating capacity of 25,000, making it the largest sports facility in Western Kenya and a major venue for both regional and national competitions.

President Ruto said the investment reflects the government’s commitment to using sports as a tool for youth empowerment, job creation and national pride.

He added that the modernised facility will offer high-quality training and competition infrastructure, giving local athletes an opportunity to compete at advanced levels while also attracting major sporting events that could boost the local economy.

“It will be a 25,000-seater stadium, the biggest in Western Kenya, and a solid foundation for sporting excellence,” the President noted.

The Bukhungu Stadium project has experienced delays in the past, but the new funding pledge signals renewed determination by the national government to complete and operationalise the facility.

President Ruto said the investment is part of a broader government plan to upgrade sports infrastructure across the country in line with its youth empowerment and creative economy agenda.
