Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reiterated that the United Opposition will remain cohesive and will, when the time is right, present a single presidential candidate to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 General Elections.

Speaking during a church service at Christ Dominion Ministries in Kasarani, Nairobi, Gachagua accused the government of attempting to split the Opposition, insisting that these efforts had failed.
“I want to assure Kenyans that we are resolute and will remain united in the Opposition. Together, we will liberate this country,” he said.
Gachagua revealed that the government had repeatedly tried to persuade Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka to join its side, calling the efforts desperate and unfruitful.
“They have been pursuing Kalonzo everywhere, inviting him to join them. But I want to assure you that my cousin cannot betray the people of Kenya,” he stated.
After failing to sway Kalonzo, Gachagua said the government shifted tactics, attempting to create a rift between the two leaders.
“The relationship between Kalonzo and me is not about politics or leadership; it is about family. Blood is thicker than water. Anyone thinking they can divide a family should forget it,” he said.

He further highlighted that the communities in Mt Kenya and Ukambani had long been weakened by political divisions but are now pursuing a united path.
“We will make decisions as a family, and all our future moves will be family decisions,” he added.
Gachagua also praised Wiper’s growing influence in Nairobi, noting the party’s support for ODM over multiple electoral cycles. He said the emerging alliance between the Democratic Congress Party (DCP) and Wiper would help minimize internal competition in upcoming elections.
“Where Wiper is strong, DCP will support Wiper. Where DCP is strong, Wiper will support us. In this way, we secure all the seats,” he explained.
He emphasized that ODM is not being sidelined but urged the party to resist government overtures.
“We are inviting ODM to join us. Even if you do not want to work with me, work with Kalonzo — you have been together for 15 years,” Gachagua said. “We want to shape Nairobi’s future and do not want ODM left behind.”
Gachagua noted that the Opposition relies on Kalonzo’s experience to develop a winning strategy for Nairobi ahead of 2027. However, he warned that if ODM aligns with the government, the coalition will proceed without them.
Describing Kalonzo as a patriotic and trustworthy leader, Gachagua said their political partnership has strengthened over the past year.
“I have worked with Kalonzo for a year now, and I have realized that he is honest and patriotic. We will walk with him and the rest of Kenya,” he said.
