The veteran journalist died in the early hours of December 7, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of cultural leadership, mentorship, and dedication to community-focused radio.

Amimo, celebrated for transforming KBC’s Dholuo service, is remembered for amplifying the voices of the Luo community and nurturing young journalists. Colleagues described him as a visionary whose influence extended far beyond the studio.

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo expressed deep sorrow, calling Amimo a close friend and an exceptional human being.

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of my friend, Festus Amimo,” he said. “He was a warm, steady and humble soul whose kindness touched everyone he met.”

Omollo noted that Amimo’s work at Mayienga Radio and his leadership within the Luo Journalists Association helped shape the careers of many young storytellers.

Siaya Governor James Orengo also mourned him, praising his calm nature and broadcast excellence.

“I am deeply saddened by Amimo’s passing, a calm and gifted soul whose loss is a major blow to the media fraternity,” Orengo said. “Your on-air sessions were rich, graceful and respectful. Shine on, my friend, Wuod Awasi.”

Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda remembered Amimo as more than a journalist, describing him as a brother whose humility endeared him to many.

“As we come to terms with this painful loss, we keep his family, colleagues and the Mayienga FM team in our prayers,” he said.

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir eulogised Amimo as a voice of reason and a unifying figure who consistently demonstrated integrity and empathy.

“His ability to speak truth with kindness and to engage audiences with both intellect and compassion made him invaluable in our media landscape,” Nassir said. He added that Amimo’s wisdom, warmth and professionalism will be remembered by all who knew or listened to him.

The cause of Amimo’s death remains under investigation.
