Ojwang, a teacher from Voi, died under controversial circumstances while in police custody, sparking national outrage. Human rights activists, political figures, and members of the public are demanding a thorough probe and accountability.

“I condemn, in the strongest terms, this cowardly killing and insist on a swift and thorough investigation. Those behind this must face justice,” Gachagua said.

Ojwang was allegedly arrested over a critical social media post directed at a senior police official. After being apprehended in Homa Bay while visiting family, he was transferred to Nairobi’s Central Police Station, where he later died.

“This wasn’t just a death—it was an execution in custody,” Gachagua stated. “Albert’s only ‘crime’ was exercising his freedom of expression online. He was arrested, detained, and lost his life. The current regime must be held to account.”

Gachagua expressed solidarity with Ojwang’s family and questioned the state’s actions against ordinary citizens.

“What offense have our youth and children committed to deserve such brutal deaths? Why are parents being forced to bury their children?” he asked.

According to police, Ojwang died by suicide after inflicting injuries on himself while alone in a cell. He was reportedly found with severe head wounds and was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The case continues to draw attention amid growing calls for justice and an end to custodial deaths in Kenya.
