The operation was conducted following a tip-off from members of the public, which led authorities to the suspect’s residence.

The woman is currently being held at Sirisia Police Station and is expected to be charged at the Sirisia Law Courts.

The seized cannabis is being held as evidence as authorities move forward with legal proceedings.

The National Police Service (NPS) commended the community for their vigilance, emphasizing the vital role of public cooperation in combating drug-related crimes.

“We appreciate members of the public who continue to aid our operations by sharing crucial information, which resulted in this successful arrest and recovery,” the NPS said.

Residents are encouraged to keep reporting suspicious behavior through the available anonymous reporting channels.

This latest arrest in Bungoma comes shortly after a similar crackdown in Alendu Village, Kisumu County, on June 2, 2025. In that case, officers from Rabuor Police Station, also acting on public intelligence, seized three large sacks packed with multiple rolls of cannabis sativa.

The NPS reaffirmed its commitment to intelligence-led policing and pledged to ramp up efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks nationwide.

“We uphold a zero-tolerance policy on drug trafficking and will continue conducting similar operations countrywide,” a police spokesperson noted.

In another related case on May 17, officers in Nairobi’s Karen area arrested two individuals and recovered 40 kilograms of cannabis, 203 rolls of bhang, 100 packets of rolling papers, Sh1,400 in cash, and a rolling flag.

These efforts form part of an ongoing nationwide multi-agency campaign targeting the illegal manufacture, distribution, and use of narcotics and illicit alcohol, launched in response to escalating concerns over public health and safety.
