Students who receive placement to a university or technical institution that does not match their expectations can apply for a transfer through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) inter-institutional transfer portal.
The transfer window for the 2026 placement cycle is currently open, allowing students to seek admission changes that better match their academic interests and career plans.
Requirements for a transfer
Before submitting an application, students must confirm that they meet the required qualifications for their preferred programme.
KUCCPS only approves transfers based on academic merit and availability of space. Applicants can move to another course if their KCSE performance meets or exceeds the cut-off points for that programme in the year they completed secondary school.
The institution a student wishes to join must also have an available slot before the transfer request can be considered.
KUCCPS said the 30-day application period is meant to support students who want to change their assigned institutions after placement.
How to apply for a transfer
Students seeking a transfer should access the official KUCCPS student portal using their KCSE login details and select the transfer option.
They will be required to enter the seven-character programme code for the course they wish to join. The system will then assess their eligibility based on their cluster points.
Qualified applicants must provide a reason for requesting the transfer before submitting their application.
A non-refundable processing fee of Sh1,000 is required and must be paid through the eCitizen platform. After payment confirmation, the request is forwarded electronically to the preferred university or TVET institution.
If the receiving institution approves the transfer, it will endorse the request online, after which the student’s current institution will be asked to release them.
The entire process is conducted digitally, meaning applicants do not need to visit KUCCPS offices or institutions physically.
The 2026 inter-institutional transfer application period will close on Friday, August 14, 2026.
