The start of preseason had been delayed after Jota, 28, and his brother, Andre Silva, lost their lives in a car accident in northern Spain last Thursday.
Manager Arne Slot, alongside several squad members including captain Virgil van Dijk, attended Jota’s funeral on Saturday in his hometown of Gondomar, near Porto.
Players such as Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, Conor Bradley, and Wataru Endo were seen arriving at the training facility for their first session back.
In a heartfelt tribute, Salah admitted he felt uneasy returning to Liverpool without Jota. “Teammates come and go, but not like this. It’s incredibly hard to accept that Diogo won’t be there when we return,” he wrote on Instagram.
A memorial space has been created outside Liverpool’s iconic Anfield stadium, where fans and former players have been laying flowers, jerseys, scarves, and photos in Jota’s memory.

The club’s first preseason match is set for Sunday against Preston North End, but ticket sales have been paused as the club considers whether to proceed with the fixture.
Liverpool also have upcoming friendlies in Asia, where they are scheduled to play AC Milan in Hong Kong and Yokohama Marinos in Japan before the end of the month.
