#FreeBilly:50,000+ Kenyans Honor Arrested Influencer, Confront Politicians in X Space

In an unprecedented turn of events, more than 50,000 Kenyans gathered on a platform dedicated to discussing the arrest and subsequent disappearance of several influential figures.

The platform, known as a ‘Space’ for live audio conversations, was led by prominent Kenyan personalities including Amerix, known for initiating ‘Masculinity Saturdays’.

During the session, the organizers boldly criticized the government and police for the arbitrary arrests of outspoken online figures who had been instrumental in the Occupy Parliament movement.

A focal point of concern was the controversial arrest of @CrazyNairobian, also known as Billy the Goat, a highly respected figure with over 403k followers.

Reports indicated that Billy was arrested at his home in Mwihoko and taken to an undisclosed police station, later revealed to be Muthaiga Police Station, although his whereabouts were disputed when friends couldn’t locate him there.

On the ‘Space’, Amerix and fellow influencer Osama Otero demanded clarity on Billy’s location and the reasons for his arrest, questioning why authorities were withholding information.

The discussion also saw strong criticisms leveled at government officials and police, with prominent figures like Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Senator Aaron Cheruiyot participating. Murkomen’s attempts to speak were met with demands for information about Billy’s situation, which he struggled to provide.

The session was tense, with various public figures, including Andrew Kibe and President William Ruto’s accounts, facing backlash and leaving the Space abruptly. Social media reactions mirrored the frustration expressed in the Space, highlighting ongoing tensions over the Finance Bill, 2024.

In a tweet following the event, Dennis Itumbi shared limited details about Billy’s arrest, indicating it was related to alleged threatening messages. He expressed disagreement with the arrest, emphasizing the importance of free speech even when critical of public officials.

Overall, the ‘Space’ underscored growing concerns about freedom of expression and government accountability in Kenya, resonating widely among the public and media alike.
