Four Busted as Police Seize Drugs in Nairobi Raids

Police in Nairobi have arrested four suspects and seized significant quantities of narcotics following separate operations in Makadara and Kasarani sub-counties.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), the arrests followed actionable intelligence from members of the public.

Officers from South B Police Station, led by the Officer Commanding Station, conducted a raid along the Ngong River on Tuesday, where they recovered six kilograms of a substance suspected to be bhang, along with 29 rolls of a green leafy material believed to be the same drug.

In a separate operation later that evening, officers from Kahawa West Police Station, while on routine patrol near Kenyatta Market, arrested a suspect found with 150 rolls of suspected bhang and three cookies allegedly laced with the drug.

Police said a total of four suspects are currently in custody and will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.

In another crackdown dated December 29, 2025, officers intensified operations against illicit alcohol and narcotic drugs in Kibra Sub-County. During a raid in Makina area, four individuals were arrested and three bales of suspected bhang recovered. A vehicle believed to have been used to transport the drugs was also impounded.

All suspects from the operations were detained pending processing and court proceedings.

The NPS reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug trafficking and distribution, warning that illicit substances pose a serious threat to public safety and community welfare.

Members of the public were urged to continue working with law enforcement by reporting drug-related activities through toll-free numbers 999, 911 or 112, or anonymously via #FichuaKwaDCI on 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp 0709 570 000.

Police stressed that public cooperation remains critical in curbing drug abuse and protecting communities.

Meanwhile, on January 3, President William Ruto announced plans to amend Kenya’s narcotics laws, proposing the death penalty for those convicted of trafficking hard drugs.

The proposal represents a major policy shift in the government’s fight against drug and alcohol abuse. The President said current penalties are too lenient, noting that traffickers can be fined as little as Sh1 million under existing laws.

Under the proposed changes, trafficking hard drugs such as heroin and cocaine would be treated as a capital offence.

Ruto said the trade fuels addiction among young people and devastates families.

“Those who sell heroin and cocaine are destroying our children. They do not use the drugs themselves; they sell them to other people’s children,” he said.

He added that the government intends to replace fines with tougher punishment, arguing that drug traffickers profit from addiction while shielding their own families from harm.
