The plane departed Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport at 6:23 a.m. Kenyan time and was scheduled to arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) at 9:30 a.m.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who led the official delegation to India, confirmed that the team had completed all necessary arrangements for the repatriation of Raila’s remains.

“We have secured his body and finalised preparations for his return home,” Mudavadi announced on X. “The aircraft carrying the body of this great son of Kenya is expected to land at JKIA at 9:30 a.m., where he will be received by President William Ruto and the nation he so dearly loved.”

The massive global interest underscored the depth of grief and admiration surrounding Raila’s passing, as Kenyans at home, in the diaspora, and aviation enthusiasts tracked the plane’s tail number as it crossed the Arabian Sea en route to Nairobi.

Raila Odinga, 80, passed away on Wednesday morning at Devamatha Hospital in Kochi, India, after suffering a cardiac arrest. He had travelled there for specialised Ayurvedic treatment but died only hours after admission.
