Testifying on Wednesday during the ongoing murder trial, Obado told Justice Cecilia Githua that he played no part in Sharon’s killing.

“I did not kill Sharon Otieno. I did not conspire with anyone, including my co-accused, to end her life. I never hired or instructed anyone to kill her,” he stated in court.

Sharon was murdered in 2018 in Homa Bay County. Obado, along with his aide Michael Oyamo and associate Caspal Obiero, were charged with her murder. All three have pleaded not guilty.

While denying any role in the crime, Obado acknowledged that he had been in a love affair with Sharon—an affair he said was widely known by his family, hers, and even staff at the Migori County Government.

Expressing sorrow over Sharon’s death, he described it as tragic and deeply disappointing to his loved ones and supporters. “She didn’t deserve to die. I feel pain for the children she left behind and for her parents. I’m also pained that my name has been dragged into this. But I had nothing to do with her death,” he said.

Obado confirmed he fathered Sharon’s unborn child, but noted he had no intention of marrying her. He also revealed that his wife, Hellen Adhiambo, had become aware of the affair and even tried to catch them together during the 2018 Devolution Conference in Kisumu.

He recounted how, on the night of May 12, 2018, his wife called to ask if he was at the Acacia Hotel or elsewhere, suspecting he had booked Sharon into a separate hotel. Initially denying any knowledge of Sharon, he later confessed when his wife presented more details.

“I eventually admitted to the affair and apologized. I won’t go into the exact words I used,” he said.
