Educational Mentor Sam Vidambu Suprises Dropout-Turned-Entrepreneur with 12k to Expand Tomato Business

Sam Vidambu, a professional educational consultant and high school mentor, recounted a touching encounter during his journey from Kitui to Nairobi. In Kithimani, he met a young boy selling tomatoes by the roadside, prompting a moment of curiosity and compassion.

Stopping his car, Vidambu engaged the boy, expressing interest in his story. The boy, aged 18, revealed that he had been selling tomatoes for five years, foregoing the opportunity for formal education due to financial constraints.

“I asked him how old he is and he said he’s 18. I asked him how long he has been doing this work and he said for 5 years,” Vidambu wrote on Facebook.

Moved by the boy’s determination and aspirations, Vidambu inquired about his future plans. The boy expressed his desire to expand his business, envisioning a venture where he could supply tomatoes to various parts of Ukambani.

“I asked him what his future plan is and he said he can’t go back to school but he wants to expand his business and even supply his tomatoes to other parts of Ukambani,” Sam wrote

In a heartwarming gesture, Vidambu not only purchased tomatoes worth 1,000 shillings from the boy but also extended a generous contribution of 12,000 shillings from his wallet to support the boy’s business expansion. Overwhelmed with gratitude, the boy, visibly moved, admitted to never having held such a substantial amount of money before.

“He literally cried and said he has never hold that amount of money at once.”

Reflecting on his act of kindness, Vidambu emphasized his inclination towards helping others. His compassionate gesture exemplifies the power of empathy and the potential to positively impact lives through simple acts of generosity.

Vidambu’s encounter with the young tomato seller serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by many youths in accessing education and opportunities for economic empowerment. It also highlights the importance of community support and mentorship in nurturing the aspirations of the younger generation.

As Vidambu continues his journey as an educator and mentor, his encounter with the boy in Kithimani stands as a testament to the transformative impact of compassion and the belief in the potential of every individual to achieve their dreams, regardless of their circumstances.
